Southwold Golf Club – Members Code of Conduct


Southwold Golf Club is committed to providing an environment that is free from discrimination, harassment and intimidation for all members, employees and guests.

All members are expected to conduct themselves in a manner which ensures Southwold Golf Club is a safe, friendly and respectful place to play golf and to meet socially. This Code of Conduct identifies the behaviours required to maintain a spirit of cooperation and goodwill in order to ensure an enjoyable experience.

This Code of Conduct is not intended to create a bureaucratic, regulatory environment, but rather to promote and enhance our Club’s values.

This code runs in conjunction with our Safeguarding responsibilities with regard to junior members of Southwold Golf Club.


All members are reminded that:

  • All Club rules should be adhered to and in particular the club’s policies, practices and procedures which can be found on the website. 

  • Respect should be shown to fellow members, staff and visitors. 

  • Proper etiquette should be observed both on and off the course and in the Clubhouse. 

  • They should not cause unnecessary divisiveness 

  • They do not have authority to instruct staff  with regard to the performance of their duties 

  • All safety issues should be reported promptly to the General Manager 

  • Suggestions for the betterment of the club should be made to the General Manager or Executive Committee 

  • Consumption of excessive quantities of alcohol is not permitted and service will be refused if necessary. Drinking is not allowed on the course. 

  • The use of foul or abusive language such as swearing has no place on the course or in the clubhouse. Any member heard using unacceptable or offensive language will be asked to either stop or leave the premises. 

  • Whilst fully acknowledging that adult “banter” contributes to creating a healthy atmosphere among members, these rules are designed to safeguard others who find such banter offensive or intimidating. 


A person engaging in any behaviour that may be detrimental to the game of golf or Southwold Golf Club is in breach of the code of conduct and should be reported to the General Manager and / or Executive Committee.


Any report of a member violating the Code of Conduct will be investigated by the Executive Committee. Depending on the severity of the complaint the member may face the following possible actions:

Informal interview and verbal warning

Interview and written warning.

Suspension for a period of time as specified by the Executive Committee

Expulsion from the Club with no reimbursement of fees already paid.

Addendum: Additional Code of Conduct requirements resulting from COVID-19 guidance

All Government guidelines MUST be complied with.

In addition, any additional requirements as specified by Southwold Golf Club must be adhered to and a full list can be found on the SGC website.

These include:

  • Maintaining social distancing in and around the Clubhouse, car park and course 

  • Only one group allowed on 1st tee at any time 

  • Pre-booking through the Pro Shop up to 2 weeks at a time. 

  • Wearing of masks in designated areas 

  • Max 2 people in changing rooms at any time 

  • Limited numbers in the Clubhouse and patio area

We ask for your patience and understanding in these difficult times. Please show respect and consideration to all those working in the Clubhouse, Pro Shop and on the course as the current situation has created additional work for them all. They are all doing their utmost to ensure members have an enjoyable time both on and off the course whilst ensuring that all Covid requirements are maintained.
