Safety on the Course

General:

  • Injury can occur through being struck by either club or ball. Never swing clubs in close proximity to others and avoid striking the ball if people are in range.

  • Water hazards always represent danger regardless of water depth. Do not attempt to recover balls from water hazards if playing on your own or if not absolutely safe.

  • Steep slopes present a risk of falling – always use steps where provided.

  • Lightning is an extremely dangerous situation on a golf course and play should be abandoned until storm has passed.

  • Fog also presents a potentially dangerous situation on a golf course and play should be abandoned if visibility is less than the potential distance of travel of a struck ball.

IF IN ANY DOUBT ERR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION AND ABANDON PLAY UNTIL CONDITIONS IMPROVE.

  • Always be alert to the potential danger of misdirecting shots towards other tees and fairways, shout “FORE” if you consider there is a risk of striking other players. This applies to all holes.

  • Be mindful at all times of greens' staff who may be working on the course.

REMEMBER THE COURSE IS ON COMMON LAND AND PLAYERS MUST BE AWARE OF, AND GIVE EVERY CONSIDERATION, TO MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

Specific Hazards:

  • Holes 1 & 10. Be particularly aware of the footpath crossing from L.H.S. of the 1st to the R.H.S. of the 10th. Also be aware of other golfers approaching the green as play alternates between the 1st & 10th and misdirected shots towards the car park and buildings from the 1st and the buildings and tennis courts on the 10th.

  • Holes 2 &11. Be aware of misdirected shots from the 4th & 13th fairways and tees and misdirected shots towards 4th & 13th fairway. Also be aware that there are a number of pathways across and beside these fairways. Nearer the green beware of misdirected shots from and towards the 3rd & 12th tee and fairway.

  • Holes 3 & 12. Be aware of misdirecting tee shots towards the 2nd & 11th fairway and misdirected shots from the 2nd & 11th fairway. A footpath traverses the fairway within the range from the tee and another footpath runs parallel with the fairway along the L.H.S. Beware too of misdirecting shots towards the green which might endanger golfers on and around the 4th tee.

  • Holes 4 & 13. Beware of misdirecting shots towards the 2nd & 11TH fairway and 2nd tee as well as misdirected shots from 2nd & 11th tees. Also be aware of misdirecting shots towards 5th & 14th fairway and misdirected shots from the 5th &14th tees.

  • Holes 5 & 14. Beware of misdirecting shots towards the 4th & 13th fairway and from the 4th & 13th tees & fairway. A pathway traverses the fairway from the pit towards the water towers. Care should be taken crossing the road from 5th & 14th green.

  • Holes 6 & 15. Beware of misdirecting shots towards the 8th & 17th fairway and misdirected shots from the 8th & 17TH tees. Two pathways traverse the fairway – one before the dogleg and one after. The second pathway is “blind” to players. Please make sure it is safe before playing. Nearer the green be aware of misdirecting shots towards the 7th & 16th fairway and misdirected shots from 7th & 16th tees.

  • Holes 7 & 16. Beware of misdirecting shots towards 6th & 15th fairway and misdirected shots from 6th & 15th fairway. It is dangerous to try to recover balls from the dyke on the L.H.S. There is a pathway along the L.H.S of the fairway. Use the steps to access 16th tee box.

  • Holes 8 & 17. Beware of pathway immediately in front of the 17th tee. Also misdirecting shots towards the 6th & 15th fairway and from 6th & 15th tees when on the fairway. Beware of vehicular traffic and pedestrians on the road beyond and to right when approaching the green. Beware of traffic when crossing the road towards the 9th & 18th tees.

  • Holes 9 & 18. Beware of unseen road and pathway which crosses in front of the green and the car park and refreshment area on the right hand side. Beware of misdirecting shots towards the 10th tee.
